Wolfman 1941

“Even a man who is pure in heart, and says his prayers by night; May become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright.”

The Wolf Man is a 1941 American horror film written by Curt Siodmak and produced and directed by George Waggner. The character casts a great deal of influence on Hollywood's depictions of the legend of the werewolf. In the film, Talbot buys a silver cane decorated with a wolf in a local antique shop. He later uses that walking stick to fend off an attack by a wolf. Though the animal is killed, it bites Talbot during the struggle. Through his bite he passes on to Talbot the curse of lycanthropy, and Talbot later transforms into a werewolf.

My interpretation of the character is something of a blend of the version portrayed in the movie, and that of a werewolf more expected of the modern day. In the original film, the wolfman, Talbot, is portrayed as something of a very hairy man, with big teeth and ears, kind of resembling more of a bigfoot than what I would expect in a “Wolfman.” My goal is to bring more of the wolf aspect out to make it feel less like a guy in a costume.

I'll be following a Mesomorph inverted triangle body type to fully depict a werewolves strength. I’ll be keeping many key features of Talbot's interpretation intact, such as his face being a blend of wolf and human features instead of just a wolf's head. For his legs however, I want the transformation more apparent to that of a werewolf. As such I’ll be changing his physique slightly, changing his legs to that of stifle joint legs, like that of a wolf's hind legs. I like the character in the movie still being fully clothed. But I want to add elements of the transformation here as well, tearing the clothing as he burst through them akin to that of the Hulk.
